Marla and Paul were married at the Whitefish Lodge in Whitefish, Montana. This wedding completely blew me away. Going through the footage for the trailer, it was almost impossible trying to pick one direction to go on. Marla and Paul’s love for each other expands beyond bounds and there are too many perfect moments to fit into a two minute time frame. Thank goodness they have a full feature coming.

In the meantime, enjoy this quick peek into their breathtaking wedding day.

This is War

As a creative being, I’ve been battling my doubts for far too long.

I have decided to go into full-blown // body slamming // blood, sweat and tears war against self-doubt, self-disgust, self-judgement and self-protection.

I’ve been wanting to put into words what I could scream to my inner self – the dark, icky parts of my soul that shout out fears and reservations.

I read this in Big Magic today and knew.

This. This is it.

“It’s funny you should ask,” you can reply. “I’ll tell you who I am : I am a child of God, just like anyone else. I am a constituent of this universe. I have invisible spirit benefactors who believe in me, and who labor alongside me. The fact that I am here at all is evidence that I have the right to be here. I have a right to my own voice and a right to my own vision. I have a right to collaborate with creativity, because I myself am a product and a consequence of Creation. I’m on a mission of artistic liberation, SO LET THE GIRL GO.” (Insert fist pump here.)

And here begins my journey of Creative Living Beyond Fear.

Hilary + Sam’s Billings Depot Wedding – Trailer

Guys. I am beyond thrilled this is FINALLY ready for eyes. My sweet friend Hilary married her dream man a couple of months ago, and not only did I get to film their beautiful union, I got to hang out with Hil the entire day. I got to witness as she transformed into THE most beautiful bride with so much grace and poise.

When I film the wedding of a dear friend, it encompasses all the best and worst parts of me. My creativity, passion and ambition kick into full force and I pour all of my energy into telling their story. It also brings a downpour of worry, anxiety and need for perfection. I’m naturally a perfectionist, but when it comes to filming for special people in my life, I dwell numerous amounts of time on what even is perfection and what are the outrageous lengths I’m willing to take to achieve it? This drives me crazy. Special deserves perfection, but perfection isn’t perfectly achieved. And around we go…

But, alas. It is here. In all of it’s glory. Glory I hope holds up to the beauty of the day and it’s gorgeous bride.

The starting point of all my films is finding the story. When shooting weddings, you don’t get to be the writer and most of the time, you have no say in who writes the story or what they write about. It’s both the beauty and struggle of filming a wedding day. Never the less, the story is always there, it just needs to be found.

Sometimes it comes in unforgettable letters written between the bride and the groom. Other times, it’s a maid of honor or best man speech. Then, every once and a while, you come across an epic father of the bride speech.

And that is where this story lies.

My emotions ran killer high while editing this one… If you’re anything like me, get ready for a tear jerker. I now encourage you to stop reading and watch.

Immerse in the story of Hilary becoming the bride. It’s a beauty.

Missoula Wedding Teaser

I was moved by this day in Missoula, Montana. Morgan and Brandon’s love for each other, their faith and the compassion they have towards others completely blew me away. Days like this day make me so thankful I get to capture weddings.

As I started looking through their footage, a storyline instantly captivated my mind and I knew I had to do it. This isn’t my typical “sneak peek” for a wedding, but I get chills and butterflies expressing the mood and suspense of seeing each other for the first time. That’s what I wanted to portray, the moment right before the bride sees her groom for the first time on the day they promise each other forever.

A Different Kind of Committed | The Asylum

My alarm clock goes off.

This is by FAR the worst part of the day. I have an internal debate with myself on whether or not to get out of bed, leave the comfort of my quilt and snuggles with my hubby.  Is it really worth it?

I think of where I’m going, the benefit of dedication and perseverance and I tell myself to get out of bed. I struggle out of the covers and walk to the bathroom. Sweatpants, tee-shirt, teeth brushed. Go.

I hop in the car and take the next 15 minutes to wake myself up as I drive to 1043 Terry Avenue. When I walk in the door, I’m met with a sense of comfort, even though what’s to come won’t be “comfortable” in the slightest. A warm smile and a genuine “Good Morning” are the first things I see and hear. Mike’s finishing up with his 6:00 trainee, and my turn is next. Warm up, then the hard work starts.

This has been Sammy and I’s life for the last few months. When Tawny and Mike asked if we would be interested in doing a film for them, Sammy and I thought, what better way to get to know these two and find out more about their gym then experiencing it ourselves? The film and testimonials speak volumes about these two, but we now know personally this gym is unlike anything else you will find in Billings.

Tawny and Mike are probably two of the sweetest people you will ever meet. Which is ironic, since they’re trainers. They may be sweet, but they work you hard. They are incredibly passionate about their training and compassionate to each and every one of their clients. Mike and Tawny genuinely want to make a difference in your life, not just in how you look, but how you feel mentally and emotionally as well. They love people and strive to make their gym environment feel more like a family than simply a place to work out.

Sammy and I have loved getting to work with Mike and Tawny, and we are LOVING the results that we saw almost instantly. If you are looking for a gym or even if you already have a trainer, contact Mike and Tawny. They will help you reach goals you thought you couldn’t. You won’t regret it!
